Catch return information is extremely important. It is a very cost-effective way of monitoring the history of migratory fish in our rivers, and of the effort required to catch them.  It therefore helps inform the discussion about progress or the lack of it.

Many of you may have already made your return, but for those who have not, please do so promptly.

Government announces new draft measures to address decline in salmon stocks

The Environment Agency announced that it would be launching a 5-point plan for restoring salmon stocks in the new year which would include actions to:

  1.     Improve marine survival
  2.     Further reduce exploitation by nets and rods
  3.     Remove barriers to migration and enhance habitat
  4.     Maximise spawning success by improving water quality
  5.     Safeguard sufficient flows
